Koi Collection is a series of transitional and spiritual paintings.
Somewhat of departure from my previous, more abstract work, the koi still are not quite realistic, and yet I wanted them to be recognizable as such. The layers of thinned out paint used to glaze over the primed canvas were covered by the thicker impasto of the colorful fish bodies, and yet, those previous layers still show through in most of the paintings.
Painting these we as much of a spiritual process to me as they were an artistic one. Within the initial layers of thinned out paint I wrote thoughts, prayers and wishes. With this paying-forward motion the koi were allowed to gently swim through the colorful paths of the seemingly ethereal impasto of fluid matter.
